Are you one of those people who love wellness tips you can try at home? I’ve put together 9 ways to use essential oils to give your routine a boost. Check out what they are and how to use them.
Once you start using essential oils for daily care, you won’t stop. If you haven’t started yet, try one of the tips below and see the benefits for yourself!
Don’t forget to read the article until the end to learn about some special precautions you should take before using essential oils.
Insomnia. This is one of the most common issues for those seeking aromatherapy. If you have trouble sleeping or can’t sleep well through the night, use lavender essential oil. Just put a drop on your pillow. If you find the aroma too strong, use a diffuser specifically designed for essential oils and add about 3 drops to the water. The scent is wonderful (at least to me).
Headaches. Another villain of modern times can be fought with a few drops of peppermint essential oil. Dilute 2 drops of this essential oil in a tablespoon of a carrier oil. Here, you have many options: coconut oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, sesame oil, or even olive oil. Make this blend and store it in a glass container. Apply it to your wrists and temples. You’ll feel relief in just a few minutes.
Upset stomach. Do you know that feeling of a heavy stomach or gas after a greasy meal? Everyone knows it’s best to watch what you eat, but if you’ve overindulged and now feel this way, take the mixture from the tip above (2 drops of peppermint essential oil + 1 tablespoon of carrier oil) and apply it to the skin over your stomach, one hand-width above your belly button. In just a few minutes, that discomfort will be gone!
Bye-bye mosquitoes. Want to replace those synthetic plug-in mosquito repellents with a natural product? The tip here is to buy a plug-in ceramic diffuser and a small bottle of citronella essential oil. Add 3 to 5 drops mixed with water and plug the diffuser in. You’ll see it works just as well as the synthetic versions, but with a much more natural scent!
Menstrual cramps. Here’s a tip for those who want a natural option but don’t like herbal teas. Make a blend with 3 to 5 drops of Clary Sage essential oil + one tablespoon of a carrier oil. Apply it to your lower abdomen, one hand-width below the belly button, and massage gently.
Libido. Have you heard of Ylang-Ylang essential oil? It's a favorite among women and is great for boosting libido. Use it the same way as in the tip above: massage the blend onto the lower abdomen. For this, use 2 drops of essential oil to one tablespoon of carrier oil. It has a floral, sweet, and strong aroma.
Goodbye bad mood. Want to lift your mood? Sweet Orange essential oil is highly recommended for bringing joy to any space. Additionally, it acts as an air "disinfectant." Add a few drops to a diffuser designed for essential oils.
Scraped knee and small cuts. Add 5 drops of Tea Tree essential oil + 5 drops of lavender essential oil to 10 ml of coconut oil. When you have a small scrape, just apply this blend, and it will heal quickly. Do not use it on deep wounds, as this blend is intended for the surface of the skin.
Teeth cleaning. For this tip, you need 3 essential oils + coconut oil. Take one tablespoon of coconut oil and add 3 drops of lemon essential oil + 1 drop of Tea Tree essential oil + 1 drop of peppermint essential oil. Brush your teeth with this paste once a day for up to one month. After a 3-month break, you can repeat the process.
Some precautions when using essential oils:
Essential oils are sensitive to light. It is recommended to store them in dark glass bottles or inside a cabinet. Any blends you’ve already made with carrier oils can be stored in a clear glass bottle, but do not leave them exposed to light for long, as they may lose their effectiveness.
Never use plastic utensils with your blends, not even a spoon or container. Always use glass containers and stainless steel spoons.
Babies, pregnant women, and people with neurological conditions should use essential oils only under the guidance of a professional.
Essential oils should not be ingested without professional advice, as they are highly concentrated substances.
Essential oils should not be applied directly to the skin; they must always be diluted in a carrier oil, as some can be caustic.
Citrus essential oils like lemon, tangerine, orange, and others are photosensitive, meaning they can cause skin discoloration when exposed to sunlight.
If symptoms persist, consult a healthcare professional.
Enjoy all the tips, and leave a comment if you already use essential oils and which one you like best! Peace and Light.
